Hornet 's nest

Postby Deltaduk » Thu Jan 01, 2015 6:12 pm

Found this abandon hornet 's nest at the cabin this weekend. When we finally got the limb shot down it was hanging, on the bottom kinda fell off. I know to spray the nest with hair spray or clear polyurethane to preserve the nest but anyone ever tried to patch one back to together? I am thinking maybe 3m adhesive spray or maybe paper mâché or something like that. If I can get it fixed it will look great in the cabin

They are tricky to get down intact, even if you're ready to catch they can get hung on something or tumble awkwardly.
I've never successfully patched one, although I'd try it again 'cause I came really close to getting it acceptable, that looks in decent shape. Good luck.

It only took bout 15 .223 bullets, 4 3" 00 buckshot ,20 .22 shells, and 6 squirrel loads to get it down. Kept getting hung on other limbs

Wonder where them .223s landed?

Turned out pretty good. Contact adhesive spray and some huge wooden toothpicks stuck thru it for strength

What's the safest way to get one down that's within reach and doesn't require shooting down? I have one I been wanting to get but not quite brave enough to mess with it

The way I've heard it, supposedly you wait till the first good hard frost then just walk up and snip the limb it's on. Seems simple but i've never had a real desire to get stung in the throat so I've never tried.

I was told if there were hornets in the nest. Put the nest in a garbage bag for a month or so. Smother them out.
