I went with the wool jacket. With just a vest under the outer shell your arms can still be kind of cool. I also zip the wool liner out and use it as a jacket itself.

Which coat did you get?

I've got a wax shelter cloth from 4-5 yrs ago. I went with a regular cotton liner. Not wool or moleskin. It is heavy and really weather proof. I have a wool vest I wear separate if it's really chilly.

I have a tin cloth field coat and a wool vest liner. I can't wear the liner unless it is below freezing.

I have the same coat and went with the wool jacket. A friend had the coat with the moleskin liner and he was complaining about it not keeping him warm. Have not regretted the heavier liner.

Been looking at all the different Filson jackets recently and thinking about taking the plunge. I haven't found a jacket that will last more than a couple of seasons as it is so might as well go ahead and spend the money on one that will last. I was wondering which jacket you guys might recommend the tin cloth field coat or the shelter waterfowl upland? Im a rather large guy at 6'3 290.
