Closing of a certain south delta wma

Postby deltadukman » Fri Dec 05, 2014 4:25 pm

I have heard rumor of a certain south delta wma closing. Is there any truth to the rumor? Word I heard was to help the reintroduction of the black bears. Wingman?

Bureaucratic bullspit.

I wouldn't be surprised if this an indirect result of decrease in wma fees revenue by those who normally buy ema permits who haven't gotten drawn in years. ( yes I am aware this particular wma is not a draw spot, but I suspect overall wma permit fees are down in past years)

Deltaduckman it is very likely. Truth be told folks are lucky it stayed open this year. With sequestration funds are slowly disappearing.

If there are any closures it will not be tied to black bears.

Any idea how much it costs to "manage it"?

It will be ugly we will not be denied access to our property. The dept doesnt own anything! We need a major , MAJOR CHANGING OF THE GUARD!

So basically the Coe owns it and the feds pay the state to mantain and operate it along with a few others. It's time to turn it over to the state and MS is saying they can't afford to operate it? Is there a way to talk about this with the sportsmen and hunters of ms to see what is feasible in helping keep our public places open? I've never hunted this one inparticular but it's a scary thought that we could go down this road. Can the sportsmen of ms ask where the $15 wma money goes like on a spreadsheet and how much money is derived through it's sales and then either ask for accountability or try and help keep them open? Seems like any time sportsmen try to bring something like this up, it's met with secret know it all's who have snide comments because they are "in the know" rather than offering ways for us sportsmen to help keep public opportunities open. I'm sure ms sportsmen are willing to help as much as the mdwfp will allow them to keep them open.
