Duck Stamp Collection Question

Postby sab316 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 2:06 pm

My dad ducked hunted hard until the early 90's. Then he decided that ducks cost to much and he could lay in his warm bed and not lose any sleep over not hunting ducks. Until that point though, he collected State and Federal duck stamps. He'd usually always buy duplicates to save one.

He has every year since Federal was introduced (1934?) until the early 90's. He has both state and federal stamp for all of those years from my understanding. He was going to get them framed, but never has gotten around to getting it done. Since over the last 8-9 years or so I've become the hardcore duck hunter he's decided to give them to me to frame and hang in my office. Of course I'm not going to sell them, but he was wondering if anyone had a knowledge of what they roughly might be worth. He said he paid a good chunk of money to get the 30's stamps back in the late 80's.

He also has 2 prints of a Federal stamp from the 30's (I think). He said they are like 191 / 500 they sold. I will try to figure out more and get some pictures. I know its difficult until then, but figured I'd make a post while thinking about it.

varies a great deal stamp to stamp. Condition, rarity, if it's a corner with the corner block and serial #, etc. Some are worth a good deal no matter the condition.
This is the first one from 1934 and its selling for $195.

Also the first MS duck stamp was 1976.

That's amazing Joel I would have thought the first duck stamp in mint condition would be worth a lot more than that. Interesting....

I've got'em back to '54 (my DOB).....all either with my Dad's and my 2 older Brothers', or my signatures on them......Priceless!

I've also got my Mom's stamp album, complete with Federal Duck Stamps.......Priceless!

Then, we (Anne & I) have another set back to when we met in '77, including state stamps, and habitat stamps from Canada for the last 11 years.........Priceless!

I got 2 1981 stamps and then have one from each of the year my sons were born. I plan on having the 1981 stamp and their birth year stamp framed side by side and then giving it to them one day.
