Ask DS, stihl gas hedgetrimmer question

Postby Caveman » Sat Oct 25, 2014 12:18 pm

About to pull the trigger on one, but not sure if the 18 or 22 inch bar is better. Open to opinions. Thanks

I got one. Dunno if it's the 18 or 22. Feels like a concrete block after about 10min.

My dad got the motor where you can attach different heads. One of the attachments he got was the hedge trimmer. It beats the brakes of the handheld hedge trimmers. You also get a lot of reach. I enjoy trimming the hedges now if that says anything.

depending on which base unit you have the heads may be interchangeable ?they are on mine but I'm sorry I don't have any idea what size hedge trimmer I have.

If you're going to be doing a lot of hedge trimming I would recommend getting the smaller sized dedicated power unit versus what I'm doing which is very heavy when I put the hedge trimmer on my weedeater base unit.

I have a buttload of shrubs and I usually have to trim them about 3 times per year. It will see lots of use whatever size I get.

Use them all the time longer the better.

Does anyone have an electric trimmer. If so how do you like it.

I picked up the model 46 with the 22 inch bar and used it this afternoon. This is a serious machine. It is a little heavy if standing on a ladder and reaching out but all I can say is WOW! Cuts more than twice as fast as the old electric Craftsman model I was using.

Warning!
Be careful with this machine! Respect it all times! Even when it’s idling, its reciprocating and will suck a glove into the blades and cut you wide open! You will bleed like a stuck hog & it will hurt more than a little bit! I almost cut the end off my index finger 4 years ago & still hve no feeling.
Great machine though & will give you a good shoulder workout.

I think it would skin a hog. Guess I need to be careful if using it with shorts on. Would hate for the old Anaconda to get shortened accidentally!
