Single shot break barrel....it's what I learned on at 6yo. Teach them to make their shots count

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

6. We aren't shooting mallards just yet, so I'm not worried about the tight pattern and all the stuff about the .410 being and expert only gun. I got 3 boys - 6,4, & 2. So they will all lay hands on this gun. He can shoot lights out with a .410 break barrel on a can at 20 yards but I don't own a .410 so it's time to get them one. He's also got a crickett 22 he's pretty good with. Saving the 20 for his "1st shotgun". This will be a family gun to plink with. I was gonna go with the Rossi but didn't know if there was a better option. I would prefer wood stock. Trip, I was thinking a pump may be too heavy. Not sure. I'll check it out.

I personally don't like the fit and finish of the Rossi. My first was a H&R. It has been borrowed by a 1/2 dozen kids at this point for their first hunts, and it will be my son's first as well.

My brother in law got my niece (12) her first shotgun this year. I think it's a stoeger O/U youth model 410. Not real expensive, real light shooting...she hit a dozen clays at Turcotte with it when we took her last month. I figure an over under would be more practical long term for bird hunting purposes than a single...plus you can always just put one shell in it at a time. If I can't buy that one off him in a few years I'm gonna find another, or something like it.

I wanna say he gave less than $400 for it

I'll have to double check the brand, but it was light and good sized. Nice little gun...

bought a yildiz 28gauge for my son and I'm really happy with it....price is really good....doesn't kick at all and is a better than a 410 as far as what can be done killing wise. I did have to cut down the stock but will always be able to lengthen it with a recoil pad later.
my .02....

Both of my boys started off with the Rossi 410/22 combo guns. They were great, both still have them in the soft sided case they come in. I have shot many armadillos with it.

I have a CZ side by side that I like a lot. My kids aren't quite ready for it so I shoot it some and have been really impressed. Pretty inexpensive too. My only complaint is that the action is a little stiff.

My boys rossi has had three cases of steel shot through it and still trucking with my youngest. I like the fact that it has the safety on the side.
