W/R on my water bill

Postby the doctor » Tue Aug 26, 2014 6:01 pm

After complaining to my wife that our water bill is/has been continually going up, she informed me those in west rankin water zone are paying for the sins of the jackson water zone...ie paying their bill because of the fine from the EPA and somehow that affects those in our area. Cant seem to out run it or get far enough away from Jackson.

Not a lot of money and I obviously dont pay much attention to it as its been going on for some time now but this sucks.

I've been wondering about that w/r charge. I'm not familiar with the EPA fines though?

We appreciate your help.

Joking aside. I can't remember how everyone got drug into this mess. Perhaps mutual use of the pearl river runoff

I believe Rankin County uses Jackson's treatment plant. And Jackson neglected to make upgrades to the facility over time. Then they got fined by the EPA and raised the rates to cover the fines and upgrades. Could be completely wrong. I know my water bill went up about $30 last month.

While the crew is there, have them put in a septic tank too.

Thought I would bring this back up since I just received my bill and the W/R charge is more than my water bill. Bill has never been more than $45 and the w/r has usually been around $10 or less, but this month the w/r charge is $49. Something is screwy down there. Called this am and they said it was based on usage. Said I used over 12,000 gallons. I don't have leaks and they said they check everytime they read the meter. It's just me and the wife. We probably didn't use more than 5,000 and that's an overestimate considering how little we are there. Lady down there said they would send someone else out to check leaks and get back with me.

Go look at your meter. I bet it is covered in mud b/c they haven't checked it, and they are just using an estimate to calculate your usage.

Will do! That's pretty dang lazy of them considering the meter is almost right at my mailbox.

Go turn everything off in your house normally and check the meter. Take a picture of the reading if that's easy for you and come back in about 10 minutes and see if that smallest indicator has advanced at all.

For example, if you've got a sink that has a slow drip like 10 drops a minute you could actually see that smallest indicator turning with the naked eye.

I'm going to guess the city of Jackson ain't smart enough to figure out what they did wrong on your bill?

There have been numerous problems with the electronic meters.
