Ask DS - Pay Pal

Postby jacksbuddy » Tue Aug 26, 2014 8:59 am

Ok, I am selling my motorcycle and this person contacted me and wants to pay for it using PayPal. We have had no negotiations, and they say they accept my price and condition. Several other red flags have gone up, such as the fact that this person is asking for several items like: PayPal Email, Full Name, Firm Price, Zip Code, and Cell Phone Number. (No, they did not ask for my Social Security Number, Passport Number, or a blood test.)

Have any of you had similar issues? How did you handle them? And does this sound too good to be true to you as well? Please let me know. Thanks.

Scam. Email address is all that is needed for someone to send you payment thru Paypal.

You should walk away.
Even better, tell him you know he is a scammer.

Give him your e-mail address and tell him to pay you 2 weeks in advance. If everything checks out, he can have the bike. He won't.

Unless he is using the Bill me later function then it could be a scam. How much are you selling the bike for, if it is under a thousand your covered thru thier buyer/seller protection.

Here is the email conversation:

Her name is "Melissa Lilia" (as if that is real) and she wrote:

"Thanks I'm just asking about it to make sure its in good condition as im buying it for my Family as a surprise gift and he doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? also no shipment involved as i have a mover that will come for it. Im okay with the price and condition , I can only pay you via one of the fastest and secure way to pay online (PayPal).. Do you have a PayPal account? Let me know asap so i can arrange the payment through PayPal. my shipper will be coming to pick it up as soon as the payment clears into your account . So if you're ready to move forward, just fill out the info below so I can work everything out!

PayPal Email:
Full Name:
Firm Price:
Zip Code:
Cell Phone Number

Thanks so much!"

My response is as follows:

"Sorry, I can't do PayPal. Tell you what, can you send me a postal money order? Or would you rather I give you the above information, along with my Social Security Number, Blood type, and a DNA sample?

Sincerely,

J"

We shall see what happens. Pass the popcorn.
