Ask DS: Where to buy a 5x10 trailer?

Postby msudawg8087 » Fri Aug 22, 2014 1:56 pm

Anybody bought a new 5x10 or similar size trailer lately? One with the 3500lb axles, 15" tires, etc.

Fixin to buy a cart and need a trailer to take it back and forth to camp and the football games on. Was supposed to get a package deal from the cart dealer but apparently he and his trailer provider had fallin this week. Just my luck...

Biltrite in Brookhaven have the best built for the money.

I am a welder by trade - and they are nice well built trailers - and are best priced.

Called Ronnie's in Kosciusko and they told me $515 + tax for a 5x10. Good night that's cheap! Do they buy them used and refurbish them or?

Saw good reviews on them.

I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

IMO you get what you pay for.. Not saying these trailer are not legit,, but I'd look at it close..

Weld, metal thickness, leaf springs, do they to match the axle weight? New tires?

you get the pic. You don't want something that will need to be welded on all the time..

I've had a couple fabricated at 'SureRide' in Mathiston, MS. If their prices seem higher - it's because they design and build them to last. The best thing about dealing with the Crowley's is their service. They're always there, and will take care of your needs.

Tommy usually keeps a couple of 5x10's made-up (i.e., in stock).

I aways buy square channel or round pipe trailers. I refuse to buy the angle iron ones. The three best places for those within 150 miles of me has been Southland in Batesville, Gillon's in Grenada, and M&S in Greenwood. I liked the place on 49 south of Jackson, but they closed didn't they?

Thanks for the info guys. Definitely skeptical of those being cheaper so would have to give em a close inspection. The used tire thing kinda throws me off too. I'm gonna do some calling around and see what the going rate is.

FYI, I just ordered a 16x6 tandem with 2ft dovetail, short gate, bulldog hitch, and tube top from Barrentine for $1415 plus tax. Built to my specs.

If you have one built to your specs I have a couple of suggestions that I did on mine.

I added two uptight bars at the rear of the trailer that are almost as tall as the gate. This is helpful when the gate is off the trailer so you can see the trailer when backing up. This also allowed me to put the gate closure pins near the top of the gate which takes significant pressure off the closure pins.

Make one of the two gate hinge pins longer than the other so you can install the heavy gate easily by yourself.

I also made the trailer tongue longer than normal that makes it virtually impossible to jack-knife. And be sure to orient the crown of boards in the same direction so you won't get big gaps between the boards when they shrink. Last one is a pet peave of mine.

I used two inch square tubing on my entire trailer with expanded metal across the front. I regret not putting expanded metal on all the sides.
