Patagonia Merino 3. I found some on a heck of a deal a while back. We go to Steamboat Springs every January and I absolutely love it. Ive started trying to find some more on sale. Its high, like $100 per piece, at regular price. Biggest benefit of it is you can wear it several times before it starts feeling and smelling like you need to wash it. It doenst seem to have the hot/cold feeling that UA has either. It regulates better I guess is what I am trying to say. You stay comfortable.

I like to have both wool and synthetic for different applications. The wool I like best is kuiu for lightweight and ulfrotte / woolpower for long tree stand sits usually with a silk base and KOM outerwear. You can't get it cold enough in MS to get cold wearing that combination.

Any of y'all have the Cabelas Wooltimate with Windshear?

I have a Wooltimate/Windshear jacket that I really like. Light weight, quiet, has kind of a nappy Berber texture which blends into cover really well. It's a warm outer layer and if you throw a shell over it, it will roast you.

I love the merino wool I have. Check out kuiu...excellent for layering . And when it gets really cold or when I'm up north hunting I use Minus 33 wool.

Both companies make a great product

how is the fit of kuiu...true to size? every now and then i find a xxl base layer (and most layers, actually) that the sleeve length isn't an issue, but for the most part most are short in the sleeves. i end up in a xxxl for sleeve length and lose the effectiveness a close fitting garment is supposed to have. it is the biggest problem with sizing from filson.

For me kuiu seems to run fairly true to fit, with the base layers being slightly on the tight side; but no where near as tight as under Armour . Kuiu outer wear is pretty comfortable and more of actual fit.

Just FYI once I broke down and bought merino wool..I gave alot of my under Armour away.

Look up minus 33 wool. They make great base layers, I flew in a set of their mid weights at altitudes of 12-13,000 feet in eastern Afghanistan during the winter months and stayed warm.

been looking at first lite and the icebreaker. Which level would you all suggest for hunting. The midweight 260 is what I was looking at. Would that be about what you all would get? Also, do these fit pretty tight (compression like UA) or are they more loose? Just trying to get a feel for what size to order.
