METAL SHOP ???'S

Postby SHANE704 » Tue Jul 08, 2014 11:36 am

I have been needing a shop for a while and have been looking into building a 35x60 or so metal shop with the back 20' being walled up and turned into an apartment. What do I need to know about red iron buildings. any do's or dont's?

build a pole barn. Like they build chicken houses.

cheapest way to get it done.

Don't make it to small.

Do look into eaves. If your gonna build the "shop" the eaves will make for nice covered storage and whatnot.

Research insulation well , most of what I have seen falls down in a few years. When comparing pricing look at what you are getting. Compare beam sizes and weight purlin size and gauge, metal siding gauge. Compare the spacing etc.

And don't forget to look into skylights either. At that size you are going to want at least 1 if not 2. It makes a big difference.

If you insulation, at least do the radiant barrier. BIG difference with the radiant barrier in place.

I'm bout to be building me a shop kinda like this. I got all my material to do it, i just need my concrete poured...so what is concrete going for these days to have someone come do it? I am talking the whioel 9 yards. frame it up, pur it and fininsh it and everything?

any idea how much $$$/yard I am talking here.

I figured out that I am going to need ~48 cubic yards if I our it 4" thick
Also, how thick do I need it. I have 14--2'x2' footings incluced in the calculations for all my posts.

Yall think 4" is thick enough?

I would figure somewhere around $150-$200/yd.
