My wife is wanting to go to San Francisco for a vacation this fall. I am not very excited but I figured there are some things to do outside the city that could be fun, ie going to see the Redwood Trees and the Sequoia National Forrest, Giants Game, etc. What are some outdoor things I might want to do while there? She also wants to go to some of the winerys in Napa. Any must dos while there and we are not limited to San Fran. I will be renting a car. Thanks. List restaurants also.

Go spend a day in Carmel and Peable Beach.

Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe. My wife and I started out there and ended up in SF.

Wife and I did that last June, great trip. We flew into SFO, rented a car and drove out to Manteca, then went to Yosimete the next day. Takes forevvvver to get there but it's stunning. From there, went to Sonoma and stayed two days, toured a winery etc. Spent two days seeing San Fran but the best part was two days In Monterey. Pricey but totally unlike anywhere near here. Whale watching tour, awesome seafood great scenery.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Basically use SF as your starting point to see all the great scenery that California has. We were there for 5 days in 2005 and only spent 1 day touring the city. Sonoma or Napa valley are great day trips. Yosemite is def worth the drive. (3-4 hrs I think) The road from SF to Yosemite was great to me as we saw miles and miles of fruit and vegetable farms. It was much different than cotton and corn farms we're used to.
Sequoia NF is great. You can spend a whole day just riding the coast along hwy 1 and stopping at the various overlooks and such. Pebble beach is a must see if you are a golfer.

Just went a couple weeks ago. Alcatraz was neat Napa Sonoma was cool along with muir woods. Food in San Fran was not as good as expected but many options. Everywhere you go in the city is up hill so be ready for that.

Muir Woods is only about 10 mins outside of the city across the Golden Gate bridge. Really big cool redwood trees.

Also, you need to bring a jacket and be prepared for much cooler temps that what you would think. The breeze coming of the pacific keeps the temps down. We were there in Sept. (I think) and wore a fleece pullover most days.

We went to Lake Tahoe and just drove to San Fran for a day. I have no desire to go back to San Fran. Planning on hitting up wine country next summer. Everyone I have ever heard go to Napa Valley and some of the wineries around there all talked very highly of it.
