Ask DS: Comcast or Directv

Postby Natty » Mon Apr 07, 2014 12:43 pm

The only channels I care about are the locals and ESPN, AMC, History, and maybe a couple others that are basic channels. Which one of these providers do y'all use and why? Need the good, bad, and ugly. Thanks.

Have Comcast and have always had good luck with them. Never liked the dish in the yard uglying up the place. Friends have and like Directv. They are both huge slow moving organizations whose tech support is always hit or miss (if you don't like tech 1 hang up and call back until you get one that is helpful). Go with whichever one you can get the best "new customer" deal with. Then swap to the other before price hike after a year or two. Basically always be the new guy or the customer the other just stole from its competition.

Regardless of who the provider is, I can't much worth watching these days... for $100 a month. Or you can play the new customer game every year or two to keep the intro rate. What a racket.

I'm not defending Comcast in any way but every provider sucks. None of them care much about their customers. I deal with all of them on the data and video side daily. Just pick the one with the best price at the time for what you want. If they screw you over or don't give a good feeling when you call for problems move on to the next one. It's all hit or miss with service and support. There are too many factors in play (distance from equipment, number of trees in the yard, age of wiring, type of wiring, weather, a support rep who doesn't give a chit and is doing enough to not get fired, etc.) to say any of them are better than others.
