First Bird for my son

Postby H20 Fowl » Mon Mar 10, 2014 8:53 am

Took Hunter out this morning, not really expecting much. We haven't been hearing much gobbling, and to be honest haven't seen a whole lot of birds on trail cams. Never the less we struck out and set up on what I call the killing tree. I've killed 5 birds off this tree over the past 4 years.

After an hour or so, we hadn't heard a sound. I let out a series of yelps and had a hen answer. I was yelping and cutting back and forth wit her just to let Hunter hear some turkey talk, when all of a sudden 3 birds sounded off really close. I heard them about the same time I seen them and they were on a dead run towards the decoys.

We got the gun up and Hunter kept asking which one. I said any of em just shoot!!!! He did and the result was his first bird ever, and the proudest moment of my hunting career.

19 pounds, 1 1/8 spurs and an 11 inch beard......What a day

Man, that's awesome! Congratulations to you and your son! I still remember the day my son killed his first. What a feeling.

That's great! Congratulations to you both. I had the honor of tagging along as a young fellow took his first turkey yesterday morning as well and there is nothing like it! If I never kill another one myself, I'm good!

That is great! Nothing like taking a kid and watching them take it all in for the first time.
