Vocabulary Fads

I’ve seen statements like this on goose hunting forums over the last few years

“we run 20 dozen DSD decoys ….blah, blah, blah…..”

I understand what the intent is, but…..

How do you ‘run’ something unless it’s motorized?

So, I’ve tolerated the saying – thinking it probably originated from some Pro-staffer trying to make a name for himself.

But when I read something like……

“I run a Sx3 with a ‘such-n-such’ custom magazine extension that holds 12 rounds”…….

….it spells……….’idiot’.

You don’t ‘run’ a shotgun.

I think you can run a pump to the plug. Or any gun for that matter

I see some correlation..... Like run your mouth or run something into the ground.

I can safely interpret this (given the source & context) - than 'running' a shotgun requires less skill than 'shooting' one (hitting the intended target), then.

This ranks right up there with "my blind bag gives me a definite advantage over other hunters" or using 10-25 dz FB mallards to lure huge flocks of migrating mallards in a ND corn field in October.

A Pro-staffer worthy concoction.

Yes. "Running" a shotgun to the plug is usually a sign of poor marksman ship.

OK - how do you run a decoy? All you do is stick a stake in the ground or unwind a anchor line and chunk it in the water. It THEN sits there and does nothing all by itself. I don't see how that's running or operating anything?

Can you run a tractor or backhoe? I think you can run a shotgun. The word run being interchangeable with operate here. But I agree you can't run a decoy.

"What kind of arrows you running through that bow?"

"Is that G&H decoys you are running?"

"I run an improved cylinder when hunting woods and run improved modified when in the fields!"

"We do not run dogs here, we run a still hunting camp here"

"Yall running out of pit blinds or lay outs down there where yall hunting?"

"I like the new RNT call I am running now"

"Where yall running at tomorrow?"

"We ran thru about 50 ducks last two days"

"What gun you running ducks with these days?"

It could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.............................................
