Postby DeltaCotton12 » Tue Jan 07, 2014 2:53 pm

I've come to the conclusion that there is NEVER, I repeat NEVER a suitable tree for a lock-on type where you need it to be. Go with the leg stand.

And trying to chain a lock on to four button willow trunks is a huge pain.

Sportstand.

4 leg adjustable. Be careful with the Avery. They are durable, but slick when wet or cold. I got a sportstand and really like it.

Unless you have a private spot, regular hole, and the wind cooperates, its a pain trying to find the right tree. If that's the case you can build one cheap to fit your needs easier where you want it, and place several around the hole so you don't have to worry about transporting the stand.

Go with a platform. As has been mentioned already, there is never a proper tree to attach a dog stand where you want it. Regardless of the route you take, the dog stand WILL BE a pain to move. Just some are more of a hassle than others. Good luck.

You never have the tree you need where you need it. Get a Sportstand. Trust me.

is it just me or are the stands shaky?? used a banded brand and an avery and the dog didn't like being on them, 2 different dogs. the stands were shaky and they just never felt comfortable on them, even in the yard. maybe the stands i used at the time were POS?

was really surprised at the response from you guys

Lock on, but make a modification.

Take a small lockon like the old loggy B. remove the bars or tree attachment portion. Take Mild steel 3/4 tubing and bend it with heat in the shape of a c. So it will hang off the side of the boat. Of course there are 2 pieces, one on each side of the stand.

You have a boat stand. But when standing in timber you can wrap a ratchet strap around a tree and fasten it to itself. You then loop the hangers over the strap and tighten the rachet strap on up. Use a Long rachet strap and you can put it on any tree shape and diameter. Its not shakey or unbalanced and can serve as a seat for you if needed. I found another small piece for a stand that flips down for easier water entry, it has a piece of conveyor belt on the deck and folds flat in the boat for transport. Weighs maybe 12 lbs and works great. I have been using it for 15 years.

I too had problems with my dog being comfortable on the "shaky" platforms. I bought the drake lock-on and really like it. Much easier to run the strap around the tree then hook stand to it. Every situation is different but I usually don't have trouble finding a tree. Just my 2 cents.

I have a lock on I use to use for my lab..... I no longer need it... I have NEVER had any trouble with putting it on a tree as long as you have a ratchet strap.... Inbox me your # and ill send you a pic.... It isn't much, but if you want it it's yours.....
