What seems to be the boards gun oil of choice.
Got a benelli and Winchester that won't cycle when it's freezing outside.
Got a sure cycle coming for the Winchester as I'm sure I've worn out the recoil spring but the benelli is new.
Gettin real old having no boom. Thinking the rem oil is to thick

Re: Gun oil

Re: Gun oil
most people over oil a gun and if its over oiled in freezing temps the oil can gum up. once the action is clean, all you need to do is wipe everything down with an oiled clothed
Re: Gun oil
Though I have never done this - but intend to do so - clean and lube with diesel. From what I've read, that's how they clean and lube the Benelli's and Beretta's in Argentina for those 1000 shot dove hunts.
Son, be sure to check the oil. The gas will take care of itself. George Carter - Circa 1965
Re: Gun oil
No way I'd use diesel,,lol,, when it gets warm it stinks more.. It might cause any rubber it got on to swell also..
Frog lube is the best I have found.. Most gun stores have it now days..

Re: Gun oil
Just take an air compressor nozzle and blow out the action after you are through cleaning and oiling everything. Should get all if the excess oil out that way.
Personally I like the gun scrubber brand labeled gun oil. Three-in-one product.

Re: Gun oil
Just my 2 cents by Rem Oil is junk...........I like Ballistol......smells funny.......but really works well.....it's a clean and lubricate in one
Re: Gun oil
Only thing I'll finish a gun with is Lube All. It won't gum up and temp doesn't effect it. It will ltterally make a Benelli sing if it's cleaned properly. Most people don't know how to clean Benelli. The recoil spring in the stock is the life of the gun! Take it apart, polish the tube, take the piston apart and do the same. Hand rub the Lube All on all moving parts then wipe off the excess with an oily rag.

WD-40, best thing ever!
Not really but I do use PB Blaster on my guns and still shooting a 1976 1100 with no new parts and it's fine as frog hair split 4 ways and smooth as silk.

Re: Gun oil
Can't speak to the Winchester but my Benelli SBE is in the middle of it's thirteenth season. Never a mechanical failure. Still on the original recoil spring. I've never used anything but BreakFree CLP which can be found just about anywhere. That's all we keep at the duck camp anymore. All the old RemOil hold outs eventually saw the light. Don't be stingy with it either. Hose the action down and run the gun wet. -J

At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.
