Ask DS..... Beach Vacation

Postby Jeff » Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:53 am

Ok guys I am at a loss for my wife for Christmas. I really think that a short 3-4 trip away from the hustle and bustle of home and kids would be perfect for her. Looking for someplace that is nice and relaxing late January/early February. I am thinking that puts me in the Caribbean. Does anyone have any suggestions? Looking for something somewhat relaxing, so I would think that nocks out Sandals and such. Any help would be appreciated!

I went to this place on my honeymoon two years ago. It was recommended to me by two friends that had gone there on their honeymoons. The place is great and the rates are even better. Our honeymoon was in late February. It was warm enough to be enjoyable and we actually got pretty hot out on some day trips, but it was a little cool at times for water activities. The best part about this time of year is that its not very crowded.

I know you said no to Sandals, but I have nothing but the highest praise from Sandals in Antigua from our honeymoon. Very relaxing. It's all inclusive (including tips) so you leave your wallet in the safe the entire time you are there. Paying for stuff is something that takes away from the relaxing as I worry about money. The resort is very quiet and the people are very nice. If you go to dinner and eat your meal and decide you want more, then you just order another meal. No questions asked. No additional fee. It's all paid upfront. I highly recommend it.

If you're willing to pony up $$$, check out the One and Only Ocean Club in Nassau. It is owned by Atlantis. Atlantis is awesome but probably more crowded than you're looking for. Where ever you decide, I would check with a travel agent. Pass two trips I've taken they got me a much better deal than what I found online. Even if they can't get you a better price, they can get amenities and comps.

Harbour Island, Bahamas - pink sand beaches, home town feel.
Or go to Belize. Very relaxing - 3 hour flight from the USA. Let your woman get a massage while you go on a 4 hour guided bone fishing trip in one of the best bonefishing areas in the world. Coco Beach is great. Don't bring anything more than swimsuits & flip flops. No cars, everyone drives golf carts.
If you want to splurge check out Amanyara or one of the como hotels resorts

Thanks ya'll researching all options at this point. Many of them seem like good ideas, it always helps to have someone that has been there as obviously this type of trip isn't cheap.

Belize would be top choice

It really depends on what you want to spend. I like Atlantis myself.

Jeff, Where did you decide to go? About to plan a trip and wanted to see what your research showed.
