Lookin' for a good book..

Postby bmaskew04 » Wed Sep 18, 2013 9:14 am

I've never been much of a reader until here lately I've read a couple of books I've really enjoyed, any of you guys have any suggestions? Preferably some authors who were deer or duck hunters. Thanks

Do yourself a favor and read The Son by Phillip Meyer. It is easily the best novel I have read so far this year. It traces the rise of the McCullough family in Texas from 1836 when Eli is kidnapped by the Comanches through the rise of his great granddaughter to prominence as an oil barron. I was so enthralled by the novel, especially the portion about Eli's life with the Comanches, that I read Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanche Nation just to find out more about Comanche culture. I would recommend that book as well.

You may also enjoy Ace Atkins' Ranger series which is set in the Mississippi Hill Country. There are three novels in the series that follow an ex-army ranger, Quinn Colson, as be becomes Sheriff. There are some great characters in the series.

A different kind of reading, but one to make you think about your current lifestyle. A book entitled 'Margin' by Dr. Richard Swenson. Very interesting and thought provoking.

Also, The Shack, is a good read as well.

I just recently read Larry Brown's, 'Joe'. They just made it into a movie. I couldn't put it down. Lots of fighting, whiskey, foul language, tough guy who is a hard worker and a good heart, and doesn't like the law.

Biography - The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt.

It is freaking huge! But a very good read.

Josh Hamilton's book Beyond Belief is a great read.

A Look at Life From A Deer Stand by Steve Chapman is really good too.
