What You seeing in yours wood before the Opener?

Postby swamprooter » Mon Sep 16, 2013 7:40 am

Spent weekend trolling the woods in Coahoma Co. and soft mast crop is very very spotty. Most persimmon groves have none to few. However thats not a bad thing if you sitting on a producer. Food plots are waiting on rain or hammered. Red oaks look awesome. Mid Oct is when i jack up in them but they could drop earlier. However my main focus is water. I'll flip flop and hunt water in evening and food in morning or water/water! well until big southern red oaks start to drop.......then i will will be attached to those. what ya'll seeing

Just north of you in FP, I looked at my 8 tree persimmon grove and it looked liked 3 or 4 had some which is a blessing. Pics have slowed significantly on the salt licks, but still see a lot of activity crossing to the blue hole. Water is definitely the ticket; however, the daytime pics are still not there.
There will be a day....

I went to my place in Bolivar yesterday. Checked a dozen persimmon trees and only one was loaded. Checked several bean trees and they don't have much either. Im not gonna hunt in this hot ass weather but judging from my cameras the ones near water are seeing more activity.

TODO.... We have not had a bean crop in years . Most of our big locust have died and fallen. Our other locust just don't produce anymore. I am wondering if we have a blight or virus that has got us on the river. My favorite tree to hunt but havet seen a bean in 4 years... You seeing the same?

Planted plots this weekend in Yalobusha Co. Now praying for some showers Thurs or Friday. Persimmons were 50/50. Looks like the red oaks will be producing a good crop. Beautyberry is loaded right now.

Salt licks are being used every morning and evening, and occasionally getting some early afternoon visits.

Every creek, ditch and drainage is dry as a powder house right now. I'll definitely be hunting water and salt licks opening weekend.

Some areas the persimmons are bare, some loaded. Not quite ready -few falling. Red oaks LOADED and a few dropping. Bean trees - LOADED. Pecans are there but not loaded. Deer still hammering soybeans and alfalfa. 50% velvet gone as of last Friday. I'm ready for Sept 28!

Bucks still in velvet but looks like they could lose it any day. No white oak acorns that I can see. Red and blacks are dropping nuts and leaves d/t drought.
