Re: Dove season?
They want say at MS Dept wildlife yet, but I am betting its gonna be on Sunday the 1st of September.
The truth only hurts when it's suppose to!!!
Re: Dove season?
Since it is a Fed bird I thought they could not open a hunting season on a Sunday.

Re: Dove season?
There's a Mississippi statute that says "Whenever the time fixed by statute for the beginning of a game season shall fall on a Sunday, the season shall begin on the preceding Saturday." Bow season begins on October 1 by statute. If October 1 is a Sunday, the season will open on the preceding Saturday.
However, this rule doesn't apply to migratory birds because those seasons are not fixed by Mississippi statute. They're set by the Commission within the feds' framework. Or something.

Re: Dove season?
Federal statutes mandate hunting of migratory birds on or after September 1. I think it's a good idea to start at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Used to be an afternoon opener by default. It's never felt the same getting up duck-blind or deer-stand early to hunt doves (but I do when that's the game plan). Given a last-meal-type one last hunt, I'd wish for a Mississippi opener and be perfectly contented with an old-time 12 bird limit as long there were friends, family, bacon-wrapped doves and ice cold beer afterwards.
