Office Visitor

Postby chevy01234 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 9:41 am

Had a racing pigeon from Porterville, Tx show up at our office yesterday. Little dude is not scared of people at all and will watch from a perch on the tall building next door or the power line across the creek until someone comes outside. Within a couple minutes he's walking around by your feet. After work yesterday I went and got him some food and well, he is not a dumb pigeon as he was waiting by the food bowl when I got to the office this morning.

(Yes, I know...the bands would be on my lanyard...they fit on a keychain, blah blah blah...heard it all already)

Tracked down the club his owner belongs to by the band numbers and waiting on their secretary to have the owner contact me about what to do with the bird.

It likely that he will eventually go home. You might cage him for a couple days then just turn him loose. They will make a rest stop somewhere if they get a little off track and worn out. Once they've got their strength back up they'll be on their way.

I thought that might happen eventually. The secretary of the pigeon club said he might of been sold to someone in MS or AR and got away while being acclimated to it's new place. He wasn't actively racing as there was no computer chip/timer on his leg.

Been interesting to say the least!

Jody we have one that shows up at our work couple times in the fall last couple years. He hangs around a day or so and then leaves. Pretty big for a pigeon and also double banded. Talked to a guy that races them and he told me it's not uncommon for them to take a rest stop.

Pigeon racing has always kind of piqued my intrest. Not the point that I want to purchase a highly modified tricked out fast foul, but curious as to how they race and such. How many end up off track and how do you get one to go somewhere and turn back around. Whats the name of the club?

Yep, I finally caved into the "gay A S S" instagram!

Its convenient as far as post-processing pictures goes via cell phone...that's about the extent of my instagram'ing though.

I hardly ever browse...100,000 pics of clouds...hold on I got to get this duck....hold still gosh dammit......
