Flooded ranger, need help ASAP

Postby redspeckable » Fri Jan 18, 2013 4:07 pm

So we drove the Polaris ranger through about 3 ft of water for about 300 yards and it lost power. It stayed cranked but wouldn't go. We got out and pushed it to dry land. It cranked right up but sounded like it was bubbling in the engine. It acted like it was going to go but wouldn't. Then it cut off, and we couldn't get it to crank back up. It would turn over just wouldn't fire. Any suggestions?

You got yout belt wet first off is why it stopped moving and woulnt go it was slipping. There is a plug on belt box that you need to take out and drain. One you get it cranked put it in neutral with plug out and rev the engine up to blow out the rest of the water. As far as cranking it check your air breather and make sure it did not take in any water. It also has a plug on the bottom. Drain any water out of it. If the water was over the seat you probably have water in your gas tank as the breather tube is under the seat. Check all the fluids and i mean all for water in them. Unless you extended the front diff tube you probably got water in it also. . That is about the best i can tell you. You are probably gonna need a new belt soon too.

Thanks for the help guys. Was able to get the info I needed from this site in the field Friday afternoon. Great group of guys and spot on advice. We pulled the plug to the belt housing and was able to limp back to the trailer. Probably could have continued to use it all weekend but with water in the oil, and what appeared to be water in the engine, we loaded it up and took it to the mechanic. She's all better now and ready for another round with the water this weekend. :D

Thanks again for the help!
