UPDATE September 5: I don't usually ask for anything
But my best friend and hunting buddy, "Deuce" needs em' right now... He developed a limp about 3 days ago and we took him to my vet. They suspected osteosarcoma (bone cancer). They did some chest xrays and they appeared clear. We were refered to another vet for verification of the cancer. He did some kind of needle aspiration sample on his leg and the needle just pushed straight through the bone... We are headed over to Mandeville, La. tommarrow to see an K-9 oncologist. Please keep my buddy in your prayers. He really needs em right now.
According to the last vet we took him to, there are MAY be 3 possible courses of action. 1. They may be able to remove the ankle bone area and fuse it together. Then perform chemo and radiation treatments. He looses mobility in the leg, but still can get around though. 2. They amputate his leg and perform chemo and radiation. 3. Put him down...
I guess we will know more tommarrow ...
UPDATE:
Well, it's a cancer (soft tissue sarcoma of sorts)... The Oncology Vet said that the safest and standard protocol for this kind of issue is "amputation" followed up with 5 treatments of chemo. Duece is tough and I know he will adjust to the handicap. But, like most of ya'll, my dogs are my children and buddies. I treat them as such and my eyes tear up everytime and look at Deuce, knowing what he is about to go through and be forever changed... Thanks for the prayers everyone. We are not out of the caca yet, so, keep ol' Deuce in mind when you say your prayers at night. Surgery is scheduled for Friday 25 Jan. and he's going to have a long road ahead of him...
UPDATE 20 Feb: Well, he had surgery yesterday and they kept him overnight. Talked to them this morning and they said he is up and moving around pretty decent. The wife is headed over now to get him. In a couple of weeks he'll start the chemo treatments. Despite all of this mess, I guess everything happens for a reason... I'm not sure why, but somehow, I know it does...
UPDATE 03 April: Well, Deuce has received a couple of chemo treatments but has had a complication of sorts. He has now developed a tumor in his eye. It has reduced his vision in that eye down to about 20%. Also, the lymph nodes seem to have shrunk in size, almost back to normal. However, the vet only thinks he has about 6 weeks left... I just don't get it??? Cut his leg off, perform ultrasound on all internals, aspirate his prostate, run blood tests and cancer marker tests and all appears responding favorable to the treatments.
WTF??? My buddy and best friend is dying??? I just don't get it...
Even though the oncology vet said it probably won't matter, I researched treating canine lymphoma on the internet and they said modifing thier diet is the one best thing you can do for them while they are receiving chemo.
We are trying diet modification to try and boost his immune system. We have him on Taste of the Wild and have cut "ALL" grains out of his diet. Also, have started adding pure fish oil to his food. Maybe, just maybe it will help.
Deuce is a trooper and a fighter and we are still praying for a miracle... Please say a few prayers for him. Screw saying one for me and give it to him...

Dearest God, Heavenly Father
maker of all living creatures,
we ask you to bless Deuce,
who brings so much joy into his family and their lives.
By the power of Your love,
enable him to live according to your plan.
May we always praise You for all Your beauty in creation.
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
Blessed are You, God, in all Your creatures!

May we always praise You for all Your beauty in creation.

Blessed are You, God, in all Your creatures!
Laughing is the sensation of feeling good all over and showing it principally in one spot.
