Boat Shifting Problem

Postby jmj7583 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:31 pm

I recently put my Tahoe ski boat with the 5.0 in the shop because it was not shifting from reverse gear to neutral to forward without a lot of effort. This did not happen every time I took the boat out last summer. The boat mechanic suspected the shifter cable needed replacing. He called today and said that the cables were fine and he didn't see anything wrong to cause the shifting problem.

Any ideas or suggestions on what the problem may be, guys?

You can unhook the cables from the controller and see if the controller will move back and forth normally. If it does fine, at least you know that the controller is not the problem.

If it is just hard to get out of gear it is probably the shift interrupt switch. If it is hard going into gear it is probably a problem with the control box or cables.
