Looking for something to keep my SBEII from rusting.

Postby jkriscaviness » Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:47 pm

Was wondering if anyone else on here has had problems with the SBEII rusting on the top and barrel portions, and if so, what have you done to solve this problem? I was thinking of having it coated with something but am unsure about where to have that done. I always make sure to dry and oil it before I store it, but that doesn't seem to always help.

Corrosion X or simple CLP has worked well for my SBEI. After a decode of hunting it has a lot of wear on it but no rust. Corrosion X is a heavier oil and I would never lube the action but it seams to stick the the outside of the barrel/receiver well and not wash off a quickly as CLP. -J

Black T - A metal coating done by the Birdsong brothers down in Florence. Really good. Should run you about $200 for a shotgun. They do metal coating for a number of federal law enforcement and militatry units.

I've had the same issue with my mine, started after a long ride back home in the case after a hunt in south LA. Since then I wipe my gun down with Barricade from Birchwood Casey after every hunt. Problem solved for the time being. Thinking of getting it coated with Black-T after season is over for a permanent fix.

Can someone give me some more info on the Black-T. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Possibly some contact info or a website? Thanks!

I have been thinking about having mine done in cercoat or black-t...let me know how it comes out if you get it done.

i left mine in the case after a morning hunt where we thought we were gonna hunt that afternoon too, and well...we didn't hunt again for a couple days and i forgot it in the case wet for a couple days. Still runs like a champ, but has some small rust spots on the barrel and vent rib.

it's a tool so I don't mind it in one aspect, but in the other aspect its a $1500 shotgun and I want it to last me as long as possible.
