Ask DS: Siphon Pump

Postby loch leven » Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:18 am

Does anyone know if there is a siphon pump that could build pressure to start water flowing over a ridge and then maintain that pressure (and keep water flowing) without constantly running and burning fuel? I am trying to get water out of a reservoir but need to go over a 15ft ridge

As long as the outlet end of the hose is lower than the suction end it should syphon. If your using a centrifugal pump you should be able to get it pumping then kill the pump and let it free flow. Make sure all your connections are air tight though or else you will loose the vacuum.
