No limit on ducks?

Postby Plainsman04 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 3:33 pm

I'd be interested to hear everybody's take on this. I'm all for doing away with possession limits as I think their time has passed. I'm not ok with doing away with daily limits. I think that would downgrade hunting success significantly and only add to the Jeff Foiles types in our sport. I'm also not sure I follow the last few paragraphs where the guy talks about having a 5 birds limit but only 4 splashes. That doesn't seem like an improvement at all. Anyway, food for thought. The wheels of government move slow so if this talk is just now starting maybe it'll come about before I die, at least as it relates to possession limits. I wouldn't complain about a little longer season either if that factored into it and was biologically sound.

Leave limits in place...if left unchecked we would kill ALL the dux...just like "the the good ol days". Canvasbacks are still trying to recover from the market hunters decades ago. That guy sounds like a freakin' idiot IMHO

I'm on an email list with Ankney and he is very intelligent. Big discussion today on this.

Would love to see possession limits dropped all together.
Have a daily bag limit, end of story! Still keep the proper tagging of birds in place.

Also, I think we should have a more liberal individual limits, and a "party" limit. For example, what is more decimating to the duck population:
A. Me killing say, 10ducks
Or
B. 5 of my friends and I killing 36 ducks

They could make a single limit of say 10 ducks per day per hunter, but a party limit of say 30 ducks.
I know this would be kind of difficult to "enforce", but maybe in some way it could be in place.

I do think they need to keep the (certain) species limits in place. For example, if pintails have a rough year, no need to kill them at will!

I really don't like being in Arkansas, killing a few ducks, prepping them to cook (completely breasting them) and feeling scared the whole time!!!
In our club, we will have a big duck cooking several times a year! And, I'm usually the one in charge of prepping/cooking. So, what do I say to mr. Green jeans when he shows up and there is a large bowl full of cut up duck breast in the fridge? (I let my duck soak in water in the fridge a full day or 2 before marinating and cooking)

Just my $.02
Okay I'm done.

I'll go along with no limits when they make it illegal to hunt waterfowl over pumped and impounded water (man-made structures) on agricultural fields.

I think the numbers get mixed up at the end-- the idea behind "4 splashes" is no species restrictions. You splash 4 and you are done, regardless of variety. Interesting idea, but it would probably be more restrictive than what we have in place.

I have a novel idea.......why not just shoot YOUR 6 ducks per day and let the other members of your hunting party shoot THEIR 6 ducks per day?......or however many (up to 6 per day) they are capable of killing.

There's no way I would shoot somebody else's ducks or hunt with someone that DOES.
