Mileage on trucks question
How many miles do you expect a truck, F150, Silverado, etc, to last? I've got just shy of 200k on my Explorer and it's still running strong. My wife's previous explorer had about the same when some Mexican bought it to drive back to Mexico and it was still solid. Is it 200k, 250k, 300k? Seems like these newer vehicles are built to last a lot longer.

Re: Mileage on trucks question
I drive mine to 250k and sell them. change my oil every 4000 miles and usually don't have any problems other than ball joints and maintenance items. I've got a company car so I'm sure the duramax I have will be 15 years old before I sell it.

Re: Mileage on trucks question
As expensive as new vehicles are nowadays, and since the average age of a passenger vehicle nationally is now over 10 years old, it simply does not pay to get rid of a vehicle until you absolutely have to. Gone are the days of vehicles being 'worn out' at 50,000 mikes, and good tires having a 20,000 mile warranty. If your truck has 200K on it and it is still going strong, keep it and service it regularly. Don't get rid of it until it starts to cost you real money in repairs and upkeep.
My S-10 had over 250K on it and I ran all of the fun clean out of it before unloading it. And by the way, I still see it motivating down Hwy 80 on occassion.

Re: Mileage on trucks question
Knock on wood have had little trouble of it and plan on keeping it a while. Just wondering what kind of mileage others were getting so I could sort of plan on when I had to pick up another truck note. Hopefully the wife's is paid off by the time I have to get another one.

Re: Mileage on trucks question
I just got rid of my 06 Sierra which had 215,000 miles on it. No one can predict the future, but I felt like I was going to be looking at some serious money to keep mine rolling for another 2 years. If I didn't have that gut feeling about it, I would still be driving it right now.
Looking beyond the front wheel bearings I did over its lifetime it was a good truck. I did have to put a new oil pump in it back in January.
GM Has some tremendous rebates going on right now.

Bout to rollover on 200k on my 2000 Tundra. Just had plugs, intake gasket, water pump, and timing belt replaced. Hoping for at least another 100k before the transmission goes.
Re: Mileage on trucks question
Last Ford Escape had 247,000, traded it on my Tundra, want at least 247,000 and hoping for 300,000 from the Yota.

Re: Mileage on trucks question
153k on my 2000 Silverado. Haven't had to do much of anything to it. Was just commenting over the weekend how it still even has the original brakes on it. Door bushings on the driver's side are about shot and the electric window motors are on their last leg. Other than that it seems to be mechanically good as new.
Re: Mileage on trucks question
My last truck (07 silverado) lasted 3 1/2 years and 165,000 miles. Dealership got $6k for it at auction last year. I would guess 35% of those miles were on gravel or dirt, which takes a toll quickly.
