Bee keeper needed

Postby MSRetrievers » Sat Apr 07, 2012 6:34 pm

Anyone know of a bee keeper around Raymond Jackson area?
Or know how to get rid of bees that have made a home on my picnic table.
There is a big wad of them about the size of a small basketball.

Luckily I saw them whew!!

they are more than likely swarming from their hive for one reason or another. They should be gone from your table within 24 hrs or so. If you can let them be. :) (no pun intended)

generally bees swarm to a "staging area" 10-300 yards from their original hive while searching for another suitable place to build their new hive. I can almost assure you they'll choose not to make your table their new hive.

Most bee keepers would love to capture a swarm thats easy pickings such as that. Hopefully someone will see your post. If not, its a good thing you have some wild bees around. They're becoming a rare commodity in many places.

BTW - i'm not a bee keeper but I let two raise several hundred hives on my farm so I've seen the behavior you're describing before. It helps with the pollination process and real honey is a lot better than the crap you buy in the stores.

Call your county extension agent. He should be able to put you in contact with a local bee keeper.

Your local Co-Op most likely will be able to provide a name of a local beekeeper as many sell their honey there as well.

I believe there are two bee keepers in Raymond. I thought the Hackneys and the Prevosts were? could be wrong.
