Anyone still waiting on meat?
I am not going to call the place out... yet. This is the first time I have used them so it may be worth the wait, who knows. I dropped off some meat 1/15/12 and have not heard a thing from them since. I tried to call friday and today and all I get is a recording. I have never had to wait this long for a deer before. The order was 25 lbs of smoked sausage, 25 lbs of bacon burger and 15 lbs tenderized steaks and the deer was brought in deboned (just for context).

Stopped by the place you are talking about yesterday and was told that everything was supposed to be finished this week so they would call me in a couple of days. I was told the same thing when I called a week ago this past Friday. It will be 8 weeks this Friday that I dropped off 2 does for smoked sausage, summer sausage and steaks. 8 weeks is getting to be a little ridiculous.

Re: Anyone still waiting on meat?
that's amazing. I took 3 does to a new place this year in Pearl (smky does) and they were done with it in 3 days. I was impressed, but it was a shady looking operation.
Re: Anyone still waiting on meat?
I think it all depends on how much they have to do. If you drop a deer off on October 1st at any place it will be back within the week. If you wait till the end of the season when deer have piled up it will be multiple weeks before you see it. None of these places have a whole lot of employees because they are a seasonal business. I'm never really worried about how long it takes as long as the quality is good when it does come back. But that's me...

kindof off the subject, but not really...
has anyone noticed an enormous price jump in processing? I swear I could buy a calf, raise it myself, and butcher it for less than it cost for a deer. buddy of mine spent over $200 on ONE deer.

Cheaper to do it yourself. At least you know what's getting mixed and the fact that it is actually your deer.

yep, a grinder and smoker are on my list for next year.

I am having same problem with place out in canton. Not calling them out, but my friend got his meat back from the same place, and he took his deer weeks after I did. Every time I call, I get a voice recording. I talked to them once, and they said it would be ready in a week. That was 3 weeks ago. I am concerned they lost my deer. I will make the drive to outfitter next yr.

Sportsmans processing.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. Their summer sausage is sub par. Their smoked sausage and tamales are incredible.

Re: Anyone still waiting on meat?
I bought a grinder from Sportsmans Warehouse this year on sale, regularly over $200 and I got it for $159 or $169, can't remember the exact numbers right now off the top of my head. Anyway, with me killing 7, and my kids killing 2, plus 2 hogs we ran through it after our Texas trip it has paid for itself already. I need to learn how to use a smoker (easily) most days I don't have 12 hours to commit to checking a smoker every couple hours to turn whatever I'm cooking.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
