Choosing a call?
Ok I'm pretty new to the game of duck hunting currently own an Echo Timber poly single reed and the Buck Gardner instructional CD. I'm interested in getting a better high dollar call but there are just so many choices. I mean most things have choices but it seems like there a a million duck calls. How do you go about choosing? Do I need to go to Mack's and blow every one they have? Or pick a brand and go blow all those? Thanks for the help!

Many of us who collect the old "little hole" Echo timbers would think you will have a hard time upgrading that call, other than material!
I would look at an Echo XLT or RNT Original in your flavor of wood or acrylic as a good, base, do most anything you need call that you will not "outgrow" no matter how good you get on a call. Others will have different thoughts, no doubt.

Speaking of the Haydel redleg, does your call stink? Mine smells like old cheese or something bad, but it does the job.

I've got two Refuge calls, I use them both equally. One smells completely normal and one smells real bad. Can't figure it out. one is a double(bad smell), one is a single (smells normal).

I am sittin here looking at mine on the shelf sitting with an assortment of different calls lined up in front of my wooden duck collection..... And that thing is gonna set tight right where it's at! Haha not gonna knock the call bc I have seen a many of limits fall victim to it, but bc of the "chicken chit" smell I just can't bare to use it! It's a good conversation piece when my wife and I have company over and I start talkin "duck calls".... I always end up tossing it to someone and tellin them to "smell this thang!"
