Anyone hearing birds gobble yet in this mild weather?

Postby duramax » Mon Mar 05, 2012 3:36 pm

Just curious as to whether people are starting to hear birds gobble a good bit on their properties yet. I was talking about this with my dad how it seems like we are about 3 weeks ahead (at least) of schedule for getting mild weather. Some say it's the length of days that matter for getting birds fired up, but I would also have to think this mild weather has to be speeding things up as well. I can remember countlesss times hunting mornings where the temps were around freezing in turkey season. We are already pushing 80 degrees some days.

I'm getting excited. Unfortunately Tennessee season doesn't open until the 31st. I'm hoping to get a young'n on one youth weekend the week before.

Saturday morning in the wind and cold they were hammering hard. The wind was just low enough where I could hear from my ridge. That was the first morning this year at my main spit thst they gobbled. And as far as bustin up- when it happens it happens fast. Last tuesday morning the gobblers were all bunched up with the hens. Exact opposite saturday. The gobblers and jakes were all split up.

Went yesterday to listen and didnt hear anything but the howling wind. I did see a lot of fresh tracks made since the rain this weekend.
