CVA or H and R
CVA or H and R
My dad is looking at gettting a 35 wheelen, 45-70, or .444. He asked me to take a look into these so he can shoot during the primative weapon season and possibly use them all season long. I was thinking the H and R was pretty much the only game in town but when I got to the gun shop, they only had the CVAs. He said at the gun shop they had a lot of problems with the H and Rs so they only carry CVAs now. The CVA felt like a great gun but just haven't had much time to research them. What are yalls opinion????? CVA or H and R and also what caliber? Thanks.
Re: CVA or H and R
Have H&R 35 and 444 no problems with either so far. I like The 35 better and ammo is cheaper in 200 grain bullet.
Re: CVA or H and R
I guess I'm lucky, but I've not had a single mis-fire in my Encore in 35 Whelen. I bought it a little over two years ago. I like the Encore platform, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives.
Re: CVA or H and R
I too must be lucky because have not had one problem out of my H&R .35. Barnes 180 gr. = knockdown, range, accuracy, less recoil. No other gun needed.
How cummas da rectums' bites off da turrrud but ain't got no toofies????
Re: CVA or H and R
I have a cva scout 35 whelen and love it. Recoil is not terrible but does rare up a lil
Re: CVA or H and R
My H & R (Handi rifle) has yet to fail to fire a bullet. The recoil is pretty stout though...but nothing I can't take long enough to get it sighted in then an occasional trigger pull at a deer. I thinking you can buy 3 Handi's for the price of a TC..just a thought.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
Re: CVA or H and R
I have fired both the TC Encore and CVA APex in 35. Whelen extensively. I would personally recommend one of those two firearms and would stay away from the H&R Handi. There is history of problems with TC Encore in the past, but I feel that these problems are no long an issue. The springs are heavier now and if you are using the Hornady Superperformance ammo you won't see any misfire issues with TC Encore.
This may sound like an odd recommendation but I prefer the Encore to the CVA Apex for this reason. The CVA has a tendency to rare up on recoil. The Encore thumps pretty good in the shoulder, but it kicks straight back and doesn't rare up at the muzzle. Of Course that is just a personal preference for me.
