4500 doves in 1 day
Re: 4500 doves in 1 day
Each lodge/outfitter has it's own record.........when I was down there once this fella from TX wanted to beat the record (4,125?) Anyway when we first started our morning hunt he had over 1,000 birds and I thought to myself this guy might do it....around 3, after around 3,000 birds he almost had a heat stroke out there and fell out.........those places make a ton of money off how many boxes of shells you shoot

Good call, Jody. Definitely a lodges record (but a damned impressive one nonetheless). Anything over 1,500 per hunt is work. We briefly described the 11,000+ bird world-record at one of our lodges, and the history and biology of eared dove hunting in Argentina (article at bottom of page) http://www.getducks.com/argentina-dove-hunting.aspx
Regarding the ammo cost of such hunting enjoyment, tehre are plenty of ways to spend LOTS more in just one trigger pull.

good point ramsey. many folks spend $10-15k on big game hunt for one trigger pull. I spent about $2500 for one trigger pull on a nice elk, wouldnt trade it for anything but you have a good point in that you get lots more bang for the buck so to speak.

I believe 4.
Re: 4500 doves in 1 day
I had the opportunity to go last year, 4th of July weekend, planned on shooting 500 rounds each hunt, 1000 per day....
"Well when in Rome" or Argentina as we were... I shot over 5000 rounds in 3 days, Yes it was expensive but I would do it again tomorrow if I had the chance! My 14 yo son made the 1000 bird club with a 28 Ga. Beretta Black Onyx O/U
If you call yourself a "Wing shooter" This trip is a Must! Get with Ramsey and he will hook you up! Most I had in a single day was on the second full day, I shot 1722 with 80% accuracy, I helped my son get his 1000 for the last 2 hours or I could have easily shot 2000+
If anyone wants to see me break the record, start a collection fund for ammo, and I will attempt it!

Re: 4500 doves in 1 day
The first day and a half I was down there I blasted away at everything. It's way too tempting to just pull the trigger as much as possible. However, I finally started picking and choosing my shots and only putting 1 shell at a time in the gun...my accuracy went way up. It was a good way to work on different presentations and get better at shots I struggle with normally. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but I'm good at a case or two per hunt, 2-4 cases/day. I never had a problem with my shoulder hurting but that continuous pounding for hours each day does wear on your body as a whole. By that last day you're whooped...I can't imagine 4500 birds in one day, I don't think it would be fun.

The new record of over 12,000 was shot with 4 SX3 20 gauges just this past few months with the average of over 78% I hear. After a thousand, that several of us that have hunted there has done it gets to be work. Correct me if I'm wronmg RR, but I believe it was at one of the lodges we rep. Sierra Brava. As far as shells go, if you set out to shoot such numbers money isn't important especially when Winchester sends you down there to break it. It's a fixation to reach a lolfty total. Have seen bird boys using leaf rakes to rake up the wads in some of the heavily shot areas that get so deep on the ground!!
