had a australian growing up, was great dog to have guarding the house. she didn't like yankees, "Monday's" (to quote some one on here), or drunks, and she was a blast around young kids. we got her when my lil bro was born and she never was messed with him even as many times as he pulled her hair, or chewed her ears. we know of at least three times that she kept folks from breaking into the house( busted door jams, but nothing missing from the house), and twice she got them well enough for them to have left a blood trail back to their vehical. one of the all time best dogs i ever had.

Hey boy. You wouldn't want Copper would you. We are possibly looking for a good home for him. He is a great dog we just have enough stress in our household. Let me know if you are interested.

We have a Brittany and a Lab in the house. I love my lab but I will always have a Brittany. They have tons of personality (and energy). They shed very little and love to be around people.

Rat terriers are ok. They shed. Abunch. The bark loud and don't like strangers. Especially Mondays. They are hard to train. Really pretty stupid. I don't know. I don't like sloppy boxers or dachunds either. Weiner dawg will flat eat u up.

I guess I'd get a Australian cattle dog.

Probably too big but Doberman's are great...full of personality and even though they shed it's not near as much as a lab or other long haired dog. They do need exercise though and they are loyal family protectors. Buy from a reputable breeder and you will be set.

I will always have a doberman running around the house!

Plus if you break into my house you'll have more than ankle wounds...never saw the real point of little damn-it-dogs but alot of folks love em! I had a dachshund that if she was the size of my doberman could have easily taken down a full grown polar bear..or at least she thought she could! Gracie was such a bad ass little dog...

Another option is go to the pound and pick out a puppy there..if its just going to be a companion any ol mutt will do!

+1 on the Australian Cattle Dog , aka Blue Heeler. I have three that I have raised from puppies, and wouldn't trade any of them for the world. Great personality and great with kids.
Very versatile. Can be a lazy house dog all day, or a guard dog outside all night. Also great for trailing deer.

I've got an aussie/heeler mix that stays in the house, along with my lab. that girl is as loyal as they come. She's never even thought about growling at a woman or child but if your a strange man....better watch ur ass.

I've got 3 Brittanies that live in the house. They're friendly, verrrrrry intelligent, and playful, but unless you've got another dog as a companion, I wouldn't recommend keeping one in the house.

Boykin Spaniel...a house dog and retriever in one that will not be much larger than 35 lbs...
