Where were you......

Postby Seymore » Mon Jul 20, 2009 8:10 pm

......40 years ago when we went to the moon. I was 2 living in Laurel and still remember my folks getting us out of bed. I don't remember much else but I still remember my parents making such a big deal about it that I remembered part of it at only 2.

Celebrating my 10th birthday that day. That year was not a good one for my family,I had just lost a brother in law in a car accident a few days prior.

More importantly, where was THEY when they walked on the moon 40 years ago? Never been one for conspricy theories, but it seems to me 40 years later nasa still can't pull 3 missions in a row off, hard to belive they sent someone 250k miles in 1969 and got em back alive. travis

I don't think we could pull it off today. The political climate has changed and the money would be to much. That was a different time from now and I think the powers that be would look at it and say there is to much risk to attempt it today.

I was 5 and living in Huntsville, AL - my dad was an Electrical Engineer for NASA from '64 -'78. I can remember always being in front of the TV when any of the liftoffs took place as our schools always had us gather for the events since so many dads worked for NASA and we lived in the Rocket City. A personal family friend who passed away about 3 years ago was one of the original rocket scientists who defected from Germany with Von Braun and others - an awesome story in and of itself.

For those who have not done this, google "International Space Station Viewing Times" and you will be able to see when the ISS is viewable to you in your specific area. It is very cool to watch and great for kids as well.

I was a kid in Oxford, MS. And I remember my Dad coming into our room and waking my brother and me up and dragging us out to watch the whole thing on TV. Neil Armstrong's 'small step for man, one giant leap for mankind' is still one of my earliest memories.

God bless the USA, we're still the greatest country in the world.

I was 7 and watched on a console black & white. You know the type that took up the whole room to hold a 21 inch screen. I recall that I had on my superman p.j.'s . AAAAH the good ole day's- playing cowboys & indians in backyard with the neighbors and momma calling you into the house for supper when the streetlights came on.
