Ask DS - ATV Tie Downs

Postby bigoak » Fri Aug 29, 2014 3:34 pm

Does anyone know where you can buy ratchet tie downs with carabiners instead of hooks? I don't want it to come unhooked of it gets slack in it.

Anyone have a better way to tie down a 4 wheeler on a trailer?

I have three of these mounted permanently to my trailer. One for the front and two for the rear. The are very fast and easy and I have never had one come loose.

I use my trailer to hail my ranger for hog hunting..... Took a piece of angle iron and put a bolt on one side and a 1/2" pin in the other side right in front of the front tires, and right behind the back tires.... Just un pin it and swing it open like a gate! Easy to take the rails off if u need your full trailer....

A day or two after reading this thread, I did see these. Hook on one end and carabineer on the other.

you could always just hook the carabineers through the looped end of the regular hooks on ratchet straps.

I have the boat transom tie downs bolted onto the front of my trailer. I hated dealing with standard straps in the dark, cold, and wet. I just pull the hook out and hook the foot stirrup and then ratchet. Release cam, unhook, and ready to go. Very easy and convenient compared to what I used to do.

What size you get should depend of the size of your ATV. I have a 350 Rancher and have the one inch strap. One I have them both hooked up that bike isn't going anywhere unless the buckle mechanism fails. Even then one strap would keep it on the trailer until I found the broken strap. Anything over 400 I'd say go with 2 inch straps.

$25 winch from Wal-Mart and a few pieces of scrap metal.

best mod I have ever done on a utility trailer - can be used for a tie down - or winching items on to trailer.
