Moonshiners
Moonshiners
Just happened to catch an episode of the new season tonight. Anybody "know" these new characters running around in the Pearl River swamps?

No, but I know where Tim and Tickle live up here in southern VA! A student worker of mine here at VT lives in the same county and told me where they live. Good to know low people in high places...

That show couldn't be more fake. Camera crew with the good guys, camera crew with the bad guys. Hello? Something's a little fishy there.
Re: Moonshiners
Yes I happen to know both of them. Mike is my second cousin and shot is a distant cousin.

Re: Moonshiners
Told my wife last night that REAL moonshiners are probably really ticked off at this show because it is bringing out all the wannabees
and they are creating way too much attention. Going to increase the law enforcement pressure on them that was probably not as intense
as it is now that this show has created a bunch of folks that want to be "moonshiners". Kinda like duck dynasty creating more "duck hunters"
and Gold rush creating more "gold miners". Heck it even makes me want to go buy some copper and make me a still. Even though I wouldn't
know where to begin and would blow something up.
And the show is OBVIOUSLY set up and fake. My assumption is that the "sherriff" isn't even a law enforcement officer. Just a guy they got
to act like one for the show. He's never in a marked car or you never see him at the police station doing any reports or paperwork.

Re: Moonshiners
To me, I think its more publicity to facilitate the new fad of liquor store moonshine, and these people that keep telling people that they made "apple pie moonshine" that is really everclear and some spices. Apparently its also "the cool thing to do" to drink(or tell everyone you are drinking) moonshine.

Re: Moonshiners
I think the show is staged, but Tim in Virginia is a bonafide moonshiner. I have a cousin that is in charge of marketing his liquor store moonshine and he said he is the real deal.

Re: Moonshiners
Yes, the show is obviously scripted to make the show what it is and I have thought about the obvious scenarios (camera crew with bad guys and law enforcement) too. I was told that the moonshiners never show their real stills, locations, etc. They use fake ones for the show. There are other shows that document drug dealers and other criminals or people in illegal businesses on tv too. I'm not exactly sure how all that works though.
