Wingman, I've often referred to them as "mini" Shovelers. Audubon says: "The BW Teal, goes through an eclipse phase and molts most of it's feathers simultaneously, including it's primaries, and so is flightless until it's new feathers grow in". Also says: "that this Teal begins courting in the Sprin...

I think it is going to require a more valiant effort by us, to try to make the difference. Rather than "paddle slapping" if someone gets too close. I suggest that we take the initiative to solve the problem constructively and equitably for both parties. I'm not saying that I am going to leave my spo...

Oh yes, one more thing. Just think about it. Unless they start restricting the # of the hunters in a WMA. There's only so much "square footage" to go around for all. I would sure hate to rely on a "lottery" type drawing, to determine my fate as to whether I could hunt in an area, that I knew just ha...

There was a phenomenon that occurred sometime during the 80's. Many of the "good" hunters that are being spoken of in this thread quit the sport when the duck #'s headed South. (pardon the pun) I think this occurred primarily due to the low #'s and in the surge in interest of big buck management tha...

If you can make a variety of other calls with your call, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I won't say most, but other calls can also produce that squeal at the end of a note. It doesn't have to be a Haydel's. Under certain conditions, I have been able to make the sound using a Greg Hood single re...
