Re: Hand making calls?????
I was turning "free" acrylic for a friend that told me he ordered some acrylic for me to make a call with...in other words I'm not real sure exactly what it was. But, it kind of melted and started to change color so I knew I had screwed up. I just figured I was trying to turn it too fast a...

Re: Hand making calls?????
The only time I tried to turn some acrylic playing around I pretty much melted it...what I was alluding to was that it is my understanding Acrylic likes to be turned slowly, and a metal lathe allows you to turn more slowly than many wood lathes.... really I like the character of wood better than acr...

Re: AR - 15 advice
The biggest negative is the fact that all the parts are proprietary (goes for any piston gun), and if they break you have to get them from LWRC...ease of interchangeability is a huge benefit to a DI gun, and give you amazing options...also they are more expensive, heavier, and may have a little more...

Re: Hand making calls?????
Good advice...I made a few jigs from wood, but eventually got a steel jig.... CCO is the place to check...even with a jig you will have a lot of tuning to do to get it "right" for you. as for bands I used to cut my own from copper/brass pipe...as for acrylic I have not tried to turn it on ...

Re: I know I'm gonna get blasted, but here it goes...
About the same time you start talking to them about shooting greenheads only...it isn't about an age it is about maturity; you could talk to plenty of 40 year olds about it until you are blue in the face and they still won't "get it" (and even those that nod will shoot the first nice three...
