Re: 6 & 60

Was there in those days myself. Dont forget The Dreaded Meganezer - Mess up and shoot a hooded merg at first light, game over, 100 points. I do think that a shorter season flyway wide would help all of us and though the point system was complicated it did make those of us who tried to stay inside th...

Re: Question about "new" vegetation in brake....

Galleon is very pricey. $475 per pint. That being said, it is an exceltent chemical for dealing with dense vegitation that you can not get a boat into to spray with a surface treatment. Galleon works in parts per Billion in the water column and is best used in late spring or early summer after signi...

Making Lemonaide

Well I have been AWOL from this, and most other web sites for a while, but I am starting to dip my toes back in the virtual waters, so to speak. Going through a rather unpleasant divorce and had a big shake out in my life last fall. But on the bright side, I am back down south. Through all this it s...

Thank fellas. I am thinking of starting my old stories back up again and maybe even putting them into a book. You never get rich as an outdoor writer but this kind of stuff is just not represented in the outdoor media much any more. So, I may start a virtual fireside for everyone to send stories too...

Stringing Decoys, a tale not an instructional

Stringing Decoys I can’t pinpoint the exact year when it happened, but somewhere in over the last quarter decade it has become a sort of ritual. No matter where I live, or when that season may open, I always find myself stringing decoys the night before the opener. This year, like a few in the pas...

Coming home

The Return Well, after four years “behind enemy lines” I am just a few short weeks from hanging my hat south of the Mason/Dixon line again. The South has always been home, but I have been gone too long. By the time October is drawing to a close I will be back safe in the land of cokes and yalls,...

The HIP survey is not used to stratify hunters into low medium and high harvest groups from which selections are made for other more detailed surveys to get a a base line estimate of harvest. In other words, a selection of hunters from each stata of harvest is selected, then selected for wing survey...

ACE, Laugh about spoons if you like, but late season in rice, the laughing stops. I have been able to decoy mallards better over 1 dz spoons than ove a 200 decoy mallard spread, consistantly. And on big lakes, coots draw big ducks very well, but you have to have a ton of them, so we always used blac...
