First hunt

I agree, sounds like he's about ready. Some suggestions for his first hunt: 1) Make it a day with a small group of hunters. 2) Concentrate more on him than on a limit of birds. 3) Even though he's steady in training, keep him on a lead while birds are falling - you know it's different! Don't give hi...

Yep, only I got the picture from a guy in Iowa who swears it was killed up there, by the kid in the picture.

I think the deer looks kinda like Don King.

Launch time

We used to enjoy hunting the Scatters - put boats in at our cabin there. But, a few years ago some new folks moved in and started getting out of line competing for the best holes (or when the water is low, the only holes), sleeping in their boats, etc. I just quit going down there at all. I can't im...

On the wind....

Went out last night about ten to give my pup a pee break. North wind had really picked up with the front moving through, and I could hear LOTS of geese up high on the wind.

Don't think all the goosebumps were from the cold........

Not stupid, just unpopular

Wingman expresses views which many here agree with, and many do not. But, Wingman, the good news is that we're not outgunned or outclassed! Stick to it, more people need to realize that it's OK to have a good time without being "altered". I love our country and freedom of choice, just remember that ...

Lost pup

Don, Don't know but we used to hunt the Scatters; I'll put the word out to the folks I know down there. You talking about the ramp up by the bridge or the new one by those trailers? By the way, thanks for doing this. As a dog owner, I'd hope someone would go to that much trouble to return one of min...

re: 55 Gal Drums

Guys, one cubic foot of water weighs 64.4 lbs. 7.48 gal/ft3. Or, you can figure 8.6 lbs/gallon. So, the buoyant force of a 55 gal volume = 473 lbs. Keeping it stable is the trick, so I'd use 6. On a smaller scale, we used to strap a section of 6" PVC pipe with plugged ends on either side of a canoe,...
