Re: Which shotgun to get?

I've bought components from him in between Gamaliel bulk orders. Seems like a nice-enough fella. Good prices - delivery to various shoots, i.e. no shipping, etc. I second Country Gentleman (Todd Nelson) - he and his Dad Jerry have fitted more all-Americans than Fruit-of-the-loom. Jerry fitted my gun...

.....plus it's hard to put batteries in them and get'em in your ears in the dark, with brittle-textured, duck-seasoned fingers.........and don't float, either...... (that was one of the 'non-warranty' trips back to Boulder, CO).

Re: How many of you keep a log book?

I use to keep a log. And I'm not scoffing those who do. The things that are truly significant and important are committed to memory....log or no log. Things like where the open water was last 3 times the river channel froze in the last 30 years.......and why they were never the same spots. Or, when ...

Re: Hearing protection

http://espamerica.com/shop-now/ I've had a pair of Elite Analogs since 2005. They were about half the price they are now.....but every couple of years, I have sent them back for repair at the tune of $100-$150 a pop......so I might as well have paid current price for them. Jack always sends me a ne...

Re: Inexpensive Boat Blind Design

Thanks, Dan. I don't like pedestals, bases, or chairs - and you can't really use the gun box for storage if you're sitting on it while hunting. Plus, you want the weight as close to the center of the width of the boat (and blind opening) so it doesn't cant to one side (even though this one is heavy ...

Re: Inexpensive Boat Blind Design

You're right - good hunt. .........and today was one of those that we didn't expect to even see a duck, but we hadn't hunted this area in a week or so........'just never know unless you go. http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz360/Anatidae1/IMG_00131_zpsbacca523.jpg?t=1421366446 Honker #7 was a sing...

Re: DuckSouth Braintrust......motels allowing dogs?

They can look at your vehicle. If they don't see a dog in it........they can assume it's in the room.

It's still basically dishonest.

Re: Inexpensive Boat Blind Design

Honker #6 from the new blind, no goose decoys.....just a call and a small duck spread with 2 mallards on a jerk string. http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz360/Anatidae1/IMG_00011_zpsdeda35d9.jpg?t=1421243289 Our first time to hunt this spot and we did a 'cold' set-up. So, at 7:15, I heard this hon...

Re: DuckSouth Braintrust......motels allowing dogs?

Approaches like have been voiced are the reason a lot of hotels post notices at check-in about violation of the pet policy....with cash penalties posted. A lot of hotels have security cameras also. Walk your mutt right in. We've had good luck with LaQuinta, Best Western, and Wyngate for being dog fr...

Re: Quick update from my neck of the woods

I agree with Josh and Chip.

It really helps if you can be out there everyday to 'keep-up with the birds' and see what they do from day to day.....primarily because conditions change pretty quickly around ice events.

I love this time of year.

Re: COLD!!!!!!

In my experience, it takes 3-5 days for ducks (especially mallards) to get fed-up with the ice and move-on down the flyway. You'll get a few, but for the most part ducks won't migrate farther than they have to, to find open water, a food source, and no pressure. While this weather event may be the b...
