Re: Puppy to Bird introduction help

Thanks for the reply. I was really looking for a response since I was concerned. She is a really good pup, just teething and being a fiend right now. She came from one of the breedings from Blaze Chocolate Thunder and Mississippi Shadow and is part of the Roux heritage so she hopefully has a lot goi...

Puppy to Bird introduction help

I have two questions. I introduced my sweet little Chocolate (13 weeks) to her first bird today and I am still trying to figure out how to evaluate it. She retreives very nice and back to me with not a lot of problems with dummies, but I threw the bird out a few feet with her lead and she turned int...

Help with barking pup

When I kennel my 12 week old lab pup she wants to bark for several minutes until she finally calms down. She will kennel on demand and goes in just fine. I ignore her, but some times it lasts for several minutes. Is this something she will grow out of? I grab her muzzle and tell her quiet and she wi...

Re: Training to Blood Trail

My last dog had a similar issue. She was extremely gun shy and wouldn't make a gun dog. I trained her to blood trail and she was awesome. Sadly, she died about 4 months ago. What I did was take a couple of full deer hides and cut it up into pieces about the size of a square of toilet paper. I also s...

Re: Puppy Play Retrieves

Like I said I am new at this. I have discovered that the more excited I get in teasing her with the item the more drive she has to retreive it. Looks like she has a great drive... I just have to get it out of her.

Duck Dog daily routine?

What is a day like for a duck dog. I am a true novice and have gained a lot of knowledge from some very helpful folks out there, but I would like to know how to structure the dogs day. How much time is the pup let out. Obviously to eat and use the bathroom and the time spent doing some training what...

Puppy Play Retrieves

I have a 12 week old Chocolate and I have been doing a few play retrieves in the morning and then again in the evening. I have been told not to over-do it. She will retreive almost anything I throw, but there is one toy that she goes bonkers over and tears after it to retrieve. I have a paint roller...

Best time to introduce a boat to your pup.

With hunting season in just a couple of days I am going to be out scouting. Is it too soon to take my 10 week old pup in the boat. She is pretty resiliant, and I think she would handle it ok. I am told that it is good to introduce your pup to all different things, but am not sure of the first boat r...

Only about two or three to keep it interesting. she gets it and brings it to me every time which I feel is good. Tonight I pulled out a frozen duck wing and through it down the hall and she picked it up an...

Re: nipping pup help!

I read the artcle... Did he actually suggest spitting in the dogs mouth to exert dominance. As disturbing as that may be, I'm even more curious as to how one would discover that technique:)

Re: Registered name for new pup

Sorry to hijack the post, but I am looking for a name to register and was wondering why all of the thought is going into these registered names. Is it a matter of just having a clever name, or is it important to the registration.

Re: Am I making a mistake

We have a local HRC... I will look into that. I guess my question is what have been the success of those of you that have trained your own dogs on and not by a professional. Is it a losing proposition?

Am I making a mistake

I just baught a really nice pup that came from a reputable breader and a repeat breading that has produced many good dogs. I have done a lot of research and read "water dog" through and through... I have gotten several videos that have been very useful and seems like the training will be a...

Two questions about a new pup

I just got my first CHL and I have a few Q's. I have read waterdog and watched several video's but none really mention what the pups daily routine should be. I am capable and have the time freedom to accomodate almost anything. Baily is only 8 weeks and I have only had her for a few days. I have tea...
