Re: Call makers: what wood to use?
agreed with ^^^ but if you have any walnut, try to get the crotch (where it forks) many times it will have some nice figure. If any of the wood has a round growth (burl) save that section.

Re: metal reed duck calls
Oh I forgot. Johnny Cocharan, 3rd or 4th generation Reelfoot callmaker. In poor health now but his sone and daughter are making calls to keep the name going. His son is John.
I think the genertion names go:
Johnny
John
Johnny
John
They next to last Johnny, his calls are well known hunting calls ...

Good calls with toneboards based off "proven AR made" calls.

Re: metal reed duck calls
I've got a few by Leonard Douglas from Reelfoot lake. They are different and I also do not see them as a call that will make a huge comeback. There are a lot of custom call guys starting to make them but it is more of keeping the tradition alive.

Re: Realfoot contest. Congrats Dixie Land Best of Show.
Thanks driveby! I'm pretty proud of the acomplishment, I never thought I could win it in all 3 divisions!
What I like about this contest is that it's 100% on the sound, the judges never see the call so it could look like a piece of crap and they'd never know it.

Re: If I had the money...
German silver is an old name for nickel silver used Reelfoot calls in the "old" days. It is an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc. Phosphor bronze was/is used in Reelfoot style calls also. It is made up of copper and tin.

Re: Dixie Land Auction Call (duckamateur auction)
Thanks everyone!
GC is doing a blind test for me so I can get his unbiased opinion. Since he has not used the "current" generation Rogue, he doesn't know which toneboard is which. I labeled the inserts 1 and 2 so I'll know which is which.
Actually driveby you have the first generation of the Rogue ...

It's stuff but hang in there. I smoked for 13 years before I quit which has been 3.5 years now. Don't let some random event be an excuse to smoke.

Dixie Land Auction Call (duckamateur auction)
Just thought I would post the call going out to the winner of the past auction the forum had. I had some thing come up in my family that delayed the call being made and shipped. Just wanted to share it with everyone. Also going out with the call is something for the winner to test!

Re: Solar Power
You will have to have a battery/battery bank. Solar panels may say 12volts but will actually produce more than 12 volts based on the sun so they would fry your 12v electronics.
