Use a 20-25 ft lead with a choke or pinch collar. If she won't come when called, pull her in with a constant, "Here, Here, Here!!!! until she is at your side. She'll catch on quickly in all probability. It is not unusual for a five month old to do what she is doing.
Good luck.

Re: ukc registration ?
Happened to me eight years ago with Elvis. UKC would not let me register him as a single registration because both parents had been UKC registered and the owner of the litter did not register the litter. I had to wait until he was a year old for a single registration and then had to do the picture d...

Charles,
Thanks for taking the lead on such a wonderful project. Along with the Tower of Hope fundraiser, you and Belinda are taking on more than your share of worthwhile causes. May God bless you.

Re: New pup advice/thoughts?
The first thing I would suggest is that you join the Southern Flight Hunting Retriever Club. All of the members have been where you are at this point in time as far as training your dog is concerned. When you do that, you will be able to get with other members that live nearby and train with them. A...

Re: Amite River Hunt Test
Thanks for the kind words, Terry. We truly could not have asked for better weather- low around 50 with a high around 80 without a cloud in the sky both days. Thanks to all of the judges that came. As I sat in the chair for the first time, I did not get to see all of the test setups, but I honestly d...

Re: Pontchartrain HRC hunt March 17 & 18
Alan is right- it was a very nice test from the weather to the grounds to the set ups. The two finished tests were what I, as a handler, always want--- challenging but fair. You could tell that the judges put lots of thought into these two. Of course, at the spillway, any three marks and a blind are...

Re: Male or female?
I've got a yellow male I wouldn't trade for anything. In fact, I just got a puppy off him. Guess what it is??? Another yellow male. In all seriousness, I don't think it matters which sex you get. Just love em to death and work with them daily and you should have a good dog and tons of fun. I hope yo...

Re: Am I making a mistake
Find a training group with handlers that have experience. I can promise you it won't take long before you run into a problem that is not discussed in a book or on tape. In my opinion, like most things, experience is the best teacher in retriever training. Good luck with your pup.

Re: Mid-south Boykin HRC test ????
Many thanks to MSBSHRC for hosting an excellent test this weekend. Finshed could not have asked for a better combination of tough but fair tests. The judges did a great job of challenging the dogs and handlers. Many thanks to Allison for being a great marshall for flight B. It was worth the 6.5 hr. ...
