HOLOGRAPH Shotgun sights

I am not a rookie shooter...I have shot shotgun sports in hunting and competition for years. But, I have never used a holograph sight for shotgun shooting and was interested in setting up my Beretta Urika 391 or Rmington 1100 with such a sight. Has anyone got experience in setting up their shotgun ...

Re: Dog house sources?

Out here a lot of the guys use old wine barrels (lots of wineries in our area) Made of oak so it is durable and the wineries practically give em away when they get old. I think that the wood is good insulator, too.

Re: Blinds for HT

Testing rules and scenarios following popular opinion. If, we, the majority, think a straight line to the bird is the prefered route, then that is the benchmark for testing retrievers. Under normal circumstances, a straight line is the shortest distance and thereby the quickest route between two ...

Re: Blinds for HT

Chance,

Things have changed in the NAHARA hunt test scene...maybe for the better, maybe for the worse. Decades ago I started in NAHRA. On the blind, the judges wanted to see control and efficiency. The rule book stated such; not necessarily a "line" to the blind. Bank running was not penalized, but ...

Re: WHISTLE

I usually use a pea whistle, Roy Gonia Mega.

SIT beeeep. (hard/soft air depending on the dog distance)

COME beep-beep-beep-beep-beep ( 5 fast beat)

COME IN SHORT and SLOW bep...bep...bep ( 3 slow beat)

PICK IT UP or FETCH beep-beep

COME AROUND (upland hunting) beee-bep This works best with a ...

Re: Blinds for HT

Chance,
I don't run HRC, so I am not familiar with their philosophy, but what is "scalloping" back? I train my dogs for right and left "J" backs. If my dog starts to get off line I can get him back on line with a R or L back that initially does not go straight back, but rather rolls R or L depending ...

Re: HONORING

I have two retrievers, so I usually practice honoring everyday...not just for fetching but everyday commands like...like sit, come, heel, etc. Usually prefaced by the dog's name..."Fido, stay"; "Rover, come."

Sometimes, on marks, I have my pups stay while I go fetch the bird or marks. They have to ...

WAG AG

I have a coulple of bird "launchers" called Wag Ag. They are a very old design. They are for training for upland hunting. They are remote controlled. I changed the batteries on the boxes and the transmitter to new batteries. The transmitter l.e.d. lights up and seems to be transmitting the signal ...

Evan,

I have contemplated your question quite a bit. Perhaps you may appreciate my thoughts on the matter...if not, take it easy on me ;o) If you really like my ideas, maybe you could send me an autographed copy of your next book.

First I would like to comment that I believe that Obedience is ...

Re: Running Blind Retrieves

Hi. I have read the posts and have gotten some good ideas for my dogs. I would have to agree with some of the thoughts regarding my dogs. I have two BLM's one 3yo and one 5yo. The five year old got his MHR though NAHRA last March.

The blind is only 100yds if the dog blasts straight for the blind he ...

Sunken Butts is what the SF missile whippers go after!
That is true. Most missile whippers then end up as MS catfish bait. Better than mudsuckers.
