Actually no... they were by theirselves. I have killed enough hen mallards in my day to know what one looks like. I hate to say it... Even shot one this mornin. It was DEFINATELY something else... I agree. The pics do look a lot like a hen mallard. I guess the pictures just don't truly justify it ...

Try fewer decoys and call very little. Try pulling about 6 or 8 decoys to the edge of your hole put a little motion in one... a jerk string, mojo, quiver butt... just a little motion with a few decoys... don't cluster them all together though. They have to be really young because they are really small... I'm honestly thinking a mottled ducks... VERY similar to both gadwall and mallard hens... Too close of a call for me. They just seem to small for a mallard. Who knows? All I'm sure of is that mallards are the most likely to cross breed ...
