Wandy- I would suggest a Grover Knoll acrylic single reed as top of list. Second, is a Greg Hood acrylic single reed. For a local call maker, he's better than most. Third, is the Echo double reed made of diamond wood and acrylic. This is the only double reed call I've found to "ring" like ...

Wandy- First, if you want to learn to call good, you have to buy a good call. Avoid any call on a card encased in plastic or almost every call sold through most mass merchandiser sporting goods store. A duck call is just like a music instrument, if you want it to sound like a stradivaris, buy a stra...

PB-
Sorry, but yes, I was actually joking. However, as Albert Pellegrin of Houma, LA. once told me-- if you limit out on them make a gumbo using extra garlic. When its done, take the duck out and eat the rest of the gumbo.

Ted10- I used to hunt davis island during the mid to late 70's for deer. I was a high school kid who was friends of a member, so I became the camp ni**er for all the work weekends so I could hunt for free. Cottonwood Bar was the camp name. Palmyra landing was where we left the barge to cross over on...

Mississippi River duck hunters

Are there any true river hunters out there beside me? Seems like most hunters are intimidated by the mighty "ole man". We hunt mainly from Vicksburg north to Carolina Chute and have many exceptional hunts there. It's amazing what 125 decoys will do set out in the button willows off a shall...

"BIG BROTHERS" for duck hunting

Does anyone know of some kids who would like to experience what a duck hunt is like, but don't have a parent who can take them? After hunting ducks for over 30 years, I would like to offer some of my precious few weekends to introduce a child and hopefully his father to the joy of duck hunting...

I noticed, regretably, that someone mentioned Byron Barret's name. Unfortunately I have had a past experience with this peepee and would love to know where he works and particularly what he now drives. He will definitely need the services of his dealership. Please post any info on him.

Hey guys there is a definite reason to kill "ole Hollywood". I have some "democrats" who want some ducks we kill so we pass along these grinners and tell them not to be afraid to add lots of garlic. No complaints so far from them. Go figure.

I have always been a single reed man, blowing a custom Grover Knoll call. I like wood calls but as they get older and the natural moisture in them dissipates, the tone changes. This happened to my Grover call, so I tried some calls available locally and found the Echo double reed made of diamond woo...

Hunted Matthews Brake last weekend and heard an obvious "new" caller in action. After he watched my boat limit out (18 gads) by 7:20, he motored over as we were picking up decoys. Thinking we had "the" spot, he set up and started hunting again. While we were loading the boat and ...

Greetings and MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone. Being a new member, I have spent the last hour reading all the postings about Matthews Brake and would like to respond. I understand both sides of the "concerns" of over-crowding there. I started hunting there 4 yrs. ago and was discouraged from h...
